The screen shot after the 'Alder' tutorial shows the decay of a starting distribution with all molecules having the same speed of 2 km/s. After 17 time frames the 'experiment' has been copied down. There is still a predominant peak near 2 km/s. The upper distribution is obtained after several hundred time frames. It is now indistinguishable from the equilibrium Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution of speeds (in two dimensions). One time unit is in reality approx. 10-13 seconds. This program uses a molecular dynamics simulation of an ensemble of 255 molecules. No intermolecular force is assumed.
